The Mountain People
2019
Northern Pakistan is an extremely remote place, where the three largest mountains in the world meet. Here, in demanding natural conditions, people cultivate the landscape with manual tools, and their lives are firmly connected with the rhythm of nature. They find happiness in their family and in the community which they belong to. Their lives are difficult but in a sense simple, clear, and determined by the norms and rules of the community. Interpersonal relationships and mutual help are the highest priorities in their lives.
People laugh a lot, and even an ordinary meeting with a friend from the house next door can make them excited. It is simply the joy of the presence of the person they like. Life here is never taken for granted. What we perceive as mundane is an everyday miracle on this place. It seems that the more difficult life is, the more it reveals what is important in life.
